SOME SACRIFICES HAVE TO BE MADE

What dark gods await appeasement through blood sacrifices, ladies and gentlemen?  Charlie Barker knows a few.  He’ll tell you all about three of them today.

When a betrothed couple have a picnic, they will wish they never stumbled across THE CLEARING IN THE WOODS.  Then, it’s off to Billings, Montana, as part of our “States of Fear” road trip.  Here, you will hear the real life account of the sacrifice made by the Apsáalooke tribe (also known as the Crow Native Americans).  It’s time for a BIG LEAP INTO BIG SKY.  Then, we try to make out what is going on BY THE LIGHT OF THE HONEY MOON.  It’s a bed and breakfast situated in a cozy little spot just this side of hell.

The sideshow has hit capacity, my friends.  This is not a bad thing.  It just means that we have to turn patrons away until next time.  Please, come back again.  It’s no sacrifice to do so.

FIT TO KILL

There is a fascination with serial killers and murders in general, ladies and gentlemen.  These are just as much of an oddity in the sideshow as a two-headed calf or the fire-eater.  Charlie Barker will pull back the tent flaps so you can observe the freak of nature known as the homicidal maniac.

The first psycho on the list for today is the tenant in the DUPLEX.  He’s been renting both places out for years and the landlords just found out why.  There is also an AVID LISTENER, who loves a late night radio show.  Perhaps love isn’t the right word.  Last up, it’s KILLING TIME where a woman awaiting a train departure decides to kill a little time.  Let’s hope it’s just time, anyway.

Didn’t get enough death and destruction, folks?  There’s more, but we couldn’t fit it all into this show.  Come back on Thursday for more murder and mayhem.

M IS FOR THE MANY THINGS

Everyone has a mother, ladies and gentlemen.  Even Charlie Barker was born from a woman at one point.  When he was alive, anyway.

Today’s tales are all about that maternal caregiver or lack thereof.  Dear old mom.  First, we delve into the story of a mother who really gives all over herself in ALL FOR THE TAKING.  Next, a lonely single mother tries to keep up with her teenage son in CHECKING IN.  The last tale is about a mother of a different sort in THE GRAVE MOTHER.  It’s a chilling tale of a daughter and her mother’s tombstone…or her mother the tombstone?

If nothing else, perhaps these stories will help you to appreciate your own mother a bit.  You may even want to bring her to the sideshow next time.  In any case, Charlie Barker will see you next time in the sideshow of the surreal.

FIENDS IN HIGH PLACES

There are always those in power over us, and usually there are those we have power over.  This means that you should always have an understanding of what it feels like to be subjugated. It ain’t much fun.  Come in and tell Char all about it.  He’s all ears.  Well, he’s all bones – but he is willing to listen nonetheless.

What the sideshow brings for us today is a look at three times that there were fiends in positions of power over their subjects.  Whether for bad or for worse, the outcome is usually dire.  In RAIDING PARTY, two brothers who thought they were miles away from anyone discover that they are the intruders.  Next, the restroom in the Japanese hibachi may be CLOSED FOR REPAIRS, but the horrifying monster within is open for business.  Last up, it’s time to RETURN TO NORLEY MANOR to settle a little unfinished business.

There is one great thing about the Circus of the Unknown.  There are no social castes or classes to overcome.  All are welcome in the sideshow.
